Title: 2D to 3D paper flowers

 Level: 3rd Grade

 Description:

 Materials:

colored construction paper

scissors

empty yoghurt cups

pencils

hot glue gun green construction paper

glitter

glue

 Objectives:

 Sequence:

Day One: (based on a one hour period day)

bulletIntro to project
bulletModel cutting petals
bulletStart cutting petals
bullet    Students will need 3 different sizes/shapes to make a successful flower. (see photos below)

Day Two:

bulletComplete cutting petals
bulletModel layout of petals
bullet    lay out largest petals only first!
bulletModel gluing petals - leaving a gap that will be "closed" later
bulletStart laying out and gluing petals

Day Three:

bulletContinue gluing petals
bulletModel adding glitter
bulletAdd glitter as an accent to petals
bulletlet dry
bulletClose gap, fill in missing petals
bulletInsert Yoghurt cup
bullethot glue ring of petals to cup.

Day Four:

bulletcut leaves to go around cup
bullethot glue leaves around base of cup to cover the cup

 

Step 1
Lay out largest petals - notice the gap!
Step 2
Add medium petals where the large overlap, leave one extra aside for filling in the gap
Step 3
Add the smallest petals in between the medium ones, leave 2 aside for either side of the medium extra petal
Step 4
Add glitter as an accent to your petals... don't forget about the extras! And remember that patterns help create interest!
Step 5
Close the gap by pulling petals together and stapling (or glue, but will have to wait for it to dry)
