Description: I did this
lesson while the fourth grade was learning about butterflies in their science
class. We talked about what they had learned about where butterflies live, what
they need for food, as much as they could remember to tell me. A great way to
reinforce what they're learning in class, and turn it into a fun project!
Materials:
Drawing pencils
Erasers
Colored pencils
12x18 drawing paper
tracing paper (small pieces are fine)
colored markers
glue
Objectives:
Students will be able to make connections between
their drawings and what they learned about butterflies in science class
Sequence:
Day One: (based on a one hour
period day)
Intro to project
What have you learned about butterflies?
Where do they live?
What is around... what do they need? (flowers, water, etc)
Start drawing an "environment" that a butterfly can live in, don't worry
about drawing a butterfly, it's done later
Day Two:
continue working on environment drawings - color neatly with colored
pencils
draw out butterfly wings on tracing paper (fold in half, can see through
to other side to make symmetrical, even when coloring!)
fold wings in half, line of glue down fold, place onto paper where it will
look like butterfly is "flying" on page! draw on body & antenna...
