Description: Henri
Matisse's "Jazz" series is a colorful wonder in the art world. Using cutout
shapes of brightly colored paper, students can create their own "jazzy" pieces,
using the same media and style as Matisse. This lesson can also be integrated
with music, having the students listen to jazz music and create their shapes
based on what they hear.
Materials:
scissors
9x12 colored
construction paper
glue
images from "Jazz"
Objectives:
Students will be able to identify and discuss works
from the "Jazz" series by Henri Matisse.
Students will be able to create works of art in the
same manner that Matisse created "Jazz" using materials safely and
responsibly.
Students will be able to discuss the properties of
Matisse's work and compare it to that of their own work.
