Title: Wild Things

 Level: K, 1

 Description:  "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak has always been a popular read for its story as well as its imaginative illustrations. Students will be inspired to create their own "Wild Thing" after seeing this!

 Materials:

Crayons

9x12 paper
Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak  

 Objectives:

bulletStudents will be able to use materials in a safe and respectful manner.
bulletStudents will be able to use literature and illustrations as inspiration for their own works of art
bulletStudents will be able to discuss features of "Wild Things" and incorporate certain features into their own work, focusing on adding details like scales and horns, to make their creature more interesting

 Sequence: 1-2 days

Day One: (based on a 30 minute period day for Kinders, one hour for first grade)

bulletDiscuss the "Wild Things" - what do you notice? do some have scales, feathers, horns... make a list with the class Now you can create your own Wild Thing, you can use ideas from the book, but you can come up with your own new ideas as well!
